 Introduction

Source your next container of dried marjoram directly from Egypt — available as Cut, TBC, Rubbed, or Powder, processed to meet your exact specifications for spice blending, meat processing, tea blending, or essential oil distillation.

Egypt is the world’s leading source of marjoram. That is not a marketing claim — it is the structure of the trade. Buyers sourcing Origanum majorana at scale are sourcing from Egypt, and the question is not origin but grade.

Grade in marjoram means one thing above all: leaf-to-stem ratio. Marjoram stem is woody, carries little aroma, and adds weight without value. The difference between a destemmed leaf grade and a standard cut with stem is the difference between paying for the herb and paying for the plant. It is also where quotes diverge most, and where buyers most often compare offers that are not like-for-like.

Our family has been dealing and processing marjoram in Fayoum since 1960, with cleaning, sieving, and grading handled in-house.

Pesticide residue testing is available with or without analysis, according to the requirements of the destination country. EU-compliant pesticide residue testing is available when required.

Available Forms

Choose the grade that best matches your processing requirements:

Marjoram TBC (Tea Bag Cut) — sized for automated tea bag filling. Marjoram — bardaqoush — is a significant herbal tea ingredient across the Middle East.

Marjoram Powder — fine-milled for sauces, soups, seasoning systems, and coating applications.

Quality & Certifications

We stand behind the quality of our dried marjoram because we build long-term supply partnerships.

For independent verification, we accept third-party inspection by SGS or another inspection company of your choice, at the buyer’s expense.

Our certificates and registrations include:

  • NFSA registered with the Egyptian Food Safety Authority
  • ISO 9001 & ISO 22000 certified for quality and food safety management
  • FDA, DUNS, GACC (China), and MFDS (Korea) registered

View our certificates and registrations for support with import compliance.

Processing controls: harvest timed for maximum leaf aroma before the plant coarsens; controlled drying at managed temperature and airflow to protect volatile oil and the characteristic grey-green colour; threshing and destemming, the step that defines the grade; multi-stage sieving graded to particle size, with hand sieving where flake integrity matters; magnetic screening for metallic particles; and moisture verification before packing.

Beyond certificates, we rely on our family experience and reputation. Our roots in the herb trade go back to 1960, beginning with our grandfather. We protect that reputation with every shipment and seek lasting relationships with importers.

Shipping, Export Coordination & Documentation

Shipping & Logistics:

  • FOB, CFR, and CIF Incoterms, with loading from Port Said, Alexandria, Damietta, and Sokhna ports
  • Cost-effective shipping arrangements through our freight partners

Export Documentation:

  • Commercial Invoice
  • Packing List
  • Certificate of Origin (COO)
  • Official Phytosanitary Certificate
  • Bill of Lading (BL)
  • Pesticide residue analysis when required by the destination country
  • Fumigation Certificate when required
  • War Risk Insurance for 40′ containers, covered by EIC

Silica gel is placed inside the container to help control humidity and protect the quality of the dried marjoram during transit.

Packaging, Shelf Life & Storage

Packing Configurations:

  • 20 kg Polypropylene (PP) or kraft paper bags — for cut, TBC, and powder
  • Customized B2B packing available on request

Shelf Life: Up to 24 months when stored under recommended conditions. Marjoram powder is best used within 12 months.

Storage Conditions: Store in a cool, dry environment below 20°C, protected from direct sunlight and humidity. Light fades colour fastest, so packaging integrity matters more than the calendar date.

Supply Capacity & What Affects Marjoram Price

Supply Capacity:

  • MOQ: 1 × 20′ FCL. Dried leaf is very low density, so a container fills by volume well before weight — expect modest tonnage per FCL. 6MT.
  • Regular monthly shipping availability
  • Contract-based programs for continuous annual-volume supply
  • Consolidation available — marjoram can ship alongside basil, chamomile, mint and other leaf herbs in one container

What Affects Marjoram Price:

Quotes vary widely, and it is almost always one of these rather than margin:

  • Colour. Bright grey-green indicates careful drying; dull or browned material assays and performs lower.
  • Particle size consistency. Tightly graded material costs more to produce because sieving loses yield.
  • Pesticide Residue Analysis: Required or Not?

  • Whether pesticide residue analysis is required depends on the destination country and the buyer’s specifications, and it naturally affects the final price.
  • Product form — cut, TBC, or powder.
  • Order volume, packaging configuration, and timing relative to the harvest season.
  • Timing of the order relative to the harvest season

Because marjoram price varies according to these factors, we quote each shipment individually rather than publish a fixed rate. For better planning, check our Egyptian Herbs, Spices, Seeds & Legumes Harvest Calendar to understand seasonal timing. Send us your grade requirement and volume for an accurate quotation within 24 hours.

If you are comparing offers, tell us the leaf content you have been quoted — that is usually where the difference lies.

FAQs

Q1. Who are we? We are a third-generation family business established in 2007, with family roots in the herb trade going back to 1960. We process our products in our two facilities: manual processing for delicate products and mechanized sorting and processing.

Q2. What is the difference between marjoram and oregano? Different species in the same genus. Marjoram (Origanum majorana) is sweet, warm, and floral; oregano (Origanum vulgare) is sharper, more pungent, and higher in carvacrol. They are often substituted in recipes, but they are not the same product on a spec sheet, and the price and origin patterns differ.

Q3. Which grade should I order? Cut is suitable for spice blends and general food applications. TBC is ideal for tea bag production. Powder is suitable for sauces, coatings, and applications requiring a fine particle size.

Tell us your application and required particle size, and we will recommend the most suitable form.

Q4. Why do marjoram quotes vary so much? Usually the leaf-to-stem ratio. The stem is woody and near-aromaless, so a cut grade with high stem content contains less actual herb per kilo than destemmed leaf. Always compare quotes on leaf content, not headline price.

Q5. What is bardaqoush? The Arabic name for marjoram, and a widely consumed herbal infusion across Egypt and the Middle East. We supply TBC grade sized for tea bag filling lines.

Q6. Why is the tonnage per container so low? Dried marjoram has a low bulk density, so a 20′ container reaches its volume capacity before reaching its maximum weight capacity. Our standard loading capacity is approximately 6 MT per 20′ FCL, depending on the packing format. This is normal for dried leaf herbs and should be considered when calculating the landed cost per kilo.

Q7. How can I verify and follow my order before shipment? You can verify your order through a factory visit, video verification, or third-party inspection such as SGS at the buyer’s expense. You can also follow your shipment through our export process. Explore Our Process

Q8. Do you seek long-term relationships with buyers? Yes. We serve customers across 21 countries spanning the Americas, Africa, Europe, Asia, the Gulf region, and Australia. We want every first shipment, and every shipment that follows, to strengthen trust and build a lasting partnership.

Q9. Do you supply the local market? No. We supply export markets only.
